2011 Little Flower Montessori Needs Water - Ruai, Kenya

Thank you Friends!  Our goal was to raise $30,000 to implement an underground pipe system to deliver underground water to the crop land of the Little Flower Montessori School so that the parents have a sustainable source of food and income.  Thanks to your donations, they are able to install the water system and grow their own crops for food and income. 

Children Waiting Everywhere seeks to put resources into projects that will be sustainable and make the most difference in the community. The people of Ruai were spending so much of their resources on driving to procure food that we wanted to find way to grow their own beans and corn.  Upon talking to the parents of Ruai school children, we found that would be happy to dig and work in return for education for kids and the ability to provide them with food.  A kind donor in Ann Arbor, MI donated the money to purchase a piece of land for them in 2008.  Unfortunately since the day we bought the land, it has not rained sufficiently to grow anything!  But we don’t give up.  The parents inspired me by the faith in the good Lord.  After each planting season, the crops would fail in the dry earth, but they continued maintaining the farmland.  Naomi did research to find the solution:  There is water underground, what is needed is to dig a “Borehole” to tap into the underground water.  Pipes will bring the water up to a sprinkler system that will distribute the water.  We now are raising the funds to complete this project: $30.000.

In the meantime, we do not sit idle.  The Nairobi River is close to some other farms that did not have the resources to buy seedlings, petrol and pump, all the things needed to produce crops.  So we provided the resources and the workforce to help these other poor farmers over the past 3 seasons to eek out a meager crop while we wait for the long term solution of building our borehole.  Please help us complete our goal of making our school children's parents capable of feeding their children for the long term!
